HOW WE WORK

The governing officers of the Chapter are:

  • The Regent (elected by the membership for a two-year term)

  • The First and Second Vice Regents (also elected by the membership)

  • The Board has responsibility for overseeing various Chapter activities. Board members, nominated by the Nominating Committee and approved by the general membership, are the Chaplain, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer, Registrar, Historian, and Librarian.

  • The Membership Chairman and Parliamentarian are appointed by the Regent.

In addition to the officers of the Chapter, there are a number of committees whose members undertake and oversee specific activities of the Chapter. Such committees include the American History Committee, DAR Scholarship Committee, DAR Good Citizens Committee, DAR Service for Veteran Patients Committee, the Membership Committee, and the Lineage Research Committee, among others. The Lansing Chapter is proud to have been the recipient of a number of awards presented for service on these and other committees.

Local DAR chapters serve under the direction of the State Executive Board, which in turn is under the umbrella of the National Society in Washington, D.C. Our organization is comprised of over 165,000 members in chapters throughout the United States and abroad. The governing body of DAR consists of:

  • The President General (an elected office)
  • Executive Committee of 11 National Officers

  • A National Board of Management consisting of 11 Executive Officers, 21 Vice Presidents General, 53 State Regents.

State meetings are held on a periodic basis each year. Continental Congress, our national meeting, is held annually in Washington, DC, during July.
